Thai Condos Attract Largest Number of Myanmar Buyers
Bangkok, March 5th – According to the Real Estate Information Center (REIC) of Thailand, Myanmar nationals have emerged as the top foreign buyers of condominiums in the Kingdom for 2024, surpassing all other nationalities in the top ten list.
Notably, Myanmar citizens acquired 1,388 condominium units, representing a substantial investment of 7.04 billion Thai Baht. This figure marks a remarkable surge of 146.1% compared to the previous year, as reported by the REIC.
In a surprising shift, Taiwanese buyers also demonstrated significant activity, overtaking traditional frontrunners like China and Russia. Taiwanese investors purchased 836 condominium units, with a total value of 4.3 billion Thai Baht.
While overall foreign demand for Thai condominiums has seen a decline over the past two years, the REIC data highlights the contrasting upward trend in purchases by Myanmar and Taiwanese nationals. This surge stands in stark contrast to the noticeably decreased demand from previously dominant markets such as China and Russia, as documented by the REIC.
Looking ahead, the REIC anticipates a stable or slightly increasing demand in the Thai condominium market for 2025. The center predicts that buyers from China, Myanmar, Russia, and Taiwan will likely continue to be key drivers in the market.
Bangkok remains the most popular location for foreign condominium purchases, followed by Chonburi, according to the REIC's findings.
