Border trade resumes after friendship bridges reopened
Myawady has been normal again and its border trading has resumed as usual after two friendship bridges were reopened, according to traders and residents.
No.1 Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Bridge connecting Thailand and Myawady was reopened on 27 April after beibg closed on 23 April, and No.2 Bridge was reopened on 30April after being closed on 11 April.
“At present, No.2 Bridge was reopened and the border trade has operated again as usual, Thailand goods enter Myanmar and Myanmar goods enter Thailand. The supply of goods has now returned to normal. Myawady has returned to its original state and has been stable at present,” said an official from Alinthit social welfare association.
A Myawady resident also confirmed that the town’s border trade has resumed as usual after bridges were reopened.
“Currently, the trade has been normal again after reopened bridges. Asian Highway has been still blocked so alternative road has been used for border trade and it has been about 5 months, he said.
Despite the fact that there are some transportation delay and costing more as traders have to use alternative approach for trading, it is expected that everything will be fine soon, said the association’s official.
