Dried snakehead fish from Maungmakan beach receives many orders from Thailand this month

Dried snakehead fish produced in Maungmakan beach, Dawei, Tanintharyi Region is receiving many orders from Thailand this month, according to the market.

Domestic demand for dried fish is low while there is a rising demand from abroad. Moreover, during this cold season, dried anchovies fish from Maungmakan is also available with a slightly lower price than last year.

“There are a lot of shipments to Thailand this month. There are orders for dried snakehead fish. We mainly ship to Thailand. Domestic demand is weak now. There is more demand from abroad than local one. In the cold season, local dried Nganitu is available on Maungmakan beach. Its price is a little less than last year, ” said a dried fish retailer and wholesaler in Maungmakan.

They also receive dried Nganitu orders from Yangon and Mawlamyine and within the next week, dried Nga Melone will also be available.

“Right now, people from Yangon and Mawlamyine are buying dried Nganitu. There are a lot of orders from Thailand for dried snakehead fish and croakers. Next week, it will be the season for dried Nga Melone in Maungmakan, so they will directly buy from warehouses. Seawater dried fish will be plenty from this season,” he said.
