Export-grade eel fry are bought by entrepreneurs from China and Thailand at the size of five-tical and ten-tical to breed.

“They are supplied to Muse via Mandalay. They are also exported to Thailand via Myawady through a series of brokers. There are many people who export after stocking to Muse. The Chinese and Thais breed the five-tical and ten-tical eel. Myanmar eel is natural, ” said an official of the Ko Min Thu Aung Fish Farm and Fish Fry Trading Business in Kayan Township.

Eel fry come in small, medium and large sizes, and are sold in the market after about three months of breeding, making them suitable for small-scale farmers to increase their income. As eel fry are a hardy fish, they are preferred for breeding domestically more than before.

“When they were bred, some people doubted if it would be okay. In fact, they didn’t have any idea before. Some didn’t dare to breed them. They are a very hardy fish. Now they are being bred more than before. When we sell fry, we explain our customers about the breeding methods based on our experience. Eel fry need to have a non-stop oxygen supply, ” she said.
