Myeik District exports US$19.41 million worth of aquatic products in 2023-24 Financial Year

The Fisheries Department of Myeik District in Taninthayi Region reported that a total of 30,000 tonnes of aquatic products from Myeik District was exported during the 2023-24 Financial Year, generating US$19.41 million.
These marine products were exported from Myeik District through the Mawtaung and Kawthoung-Ranoung border trade routes, as stated by U Zaw Min Oo, Deputy Director of the Fisheries Department in Myeik District, Taninthayi Region.
U Zaw Min Oo explained, “Aquatic products from Taninthayi Region, primarily from Myeik District, are exported via the Mawtaung trade post through the border route, while some are directly transported from Kawthoung to Ranong. In the previous 2023-24 Financial Year, a total of 32,567.61 tonnes of aquatic products were exported, generating US$19.41 million. Additionally, 3,854 tonnes of aquatic products were exported in April, the first month of the 2024-25 Financial Year, earning US$3.47 million. Myeik District is known for its production of saltwater fish and prawns”.
Aquatic products from Taninthayi Region, including fish, prawns, farmed fish, and other marine produce from Kawthoung, Dawei, and Myeik districts, are transported via five routes for export. Some goods are also transported to Yangon before being exported abroad. — ASH/TMT
