Myanmar exports 400,000MT of fisheries to global markets in Apr-Dec

According to the Fisheries Department, Myanmar bagged US$521 million from over 402,300 metric tonnes of fishery exports in the past nine months of the current financial year 2024-2025, beginning 1 April.
The export volume indicated a significant increase of over 56,800 tonnes worth three million dollars compared with that of the corresponding period last year.
Myanmar exported 192,000 tonnes of fisheries worth $312 million to external markets via maritime and air trade. The remaining was sent to neighbouring countries through Myawady, Kawthoung, Kengtung, Myeik and Mawtaung border crossings.
Myanmar steadily exports seafood to 40 countries, including China, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Japan, through maritime and border trade channels. The Myanmar Fisheries Federation and Fisheries Department joined hands to bolster fisheries exports.
More than 20 fish species including hilsa, rohu, catfish, and seabass are conveyed to foreign markets, according to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation. — NN/KK
